Volunteering

Mawson Lakes School values and celebrates strong, positive connections with parents and families and one way to do this is by being a volunteer. Classroom support, excursions, special events and sport activities are all ways we rely on the goodwill, expertise and care of our volunteers.  Parent and community participation can contribute to the life of our school in a number of ways:

  • It shows your child how much you value their education. Taking the time to volunteer at the school shows your child how important their school and their education are to you.
  • It teaches community. Volunteering your time shows the importance of participating in the larger community, it demonstrates the importance and value of working together.
  • It improves communication with our teachers. When you volunteer in the classroom, you get to know your child’s teacher in a different way and gives you the opportunity to talk about other subjects and build a positive relationship.

To become a volunteer, you will need to have a current copy or complete the following (links to these documents/trainings can be found on the following subpage):

  • DfE Volunteer Application Form (Please note, as part of this DfE application we require you to include at least one referee. It can be someone at our school or centre who already knows you. We just need at least one person’s detail.)
  • DfE Volunteer Agreement
  • DHS Working with Children Check application
  • DfE Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) – online course takes approx. 1 hour to complete
  • DfE General Induction – online course takes approx. 20 minutes to complete
  • Protective Practices Training (optional but recommended)

Please refer to the 'Training Links and Documents' tab to access the above forms.

Once you have acquired all of these prerequisites, you will need to contact our Assistant Principal – Reannon McGiffert to arrange a meeting with her to discuss what type of volunteering you would like to offer to our school and then complete a site induction before commencing your volunteering.

To support you in identifying volunteer roles at Mawson Lakes School, we have included on the subpage a list of role descriptions.
