Student wellbeing
At Mawson Lakes School, we are dedicated to the wellbeing of every student, recognising its vital role in fostering successful learning outcomes. Guided by our values we are Courageous, we are Curious, and we are Kind, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
Our practices are aligned with the Australian Student Wellbeing Framework, which focuses on Leadership, Inclusion, Student Voice, Partnerships, and Support. These elements are integrated into our daily practices to support and nurture holistic student wellbeing across all year levels.
The Zones of Regulation framework is a key tool in supporting students’ emotional and social development. It empowers them to manage their emotions and seek appropriate support when needed. By integrating this framework, we promote self-regulation, enabling students to understand and manage their emotions, develop behaviour strategies, and build resilience. The Zones of Regulation uses a colour-coded system to help students recognise and regulate their emotions. Additionally, our focus on Sensory Systems addresses diverse sensory needs, supporting students’ individual needs for emotional balance.
We also employ Restorative Practices to foster conflict resolution and positive relationships, strengthening our school culture. Teachers collaborate closely with our Wellbeing Leader, Leadership team, and Pastoral Care Worker to create a nurturing and inclusive wellbeing environment, ensuring the growth and development of every student.
