Enrolment process

Mawson Lakes School is a zoned school operating under a Capacity Management Plan. This has been initiated due to enrolment pressure. The conditions for enrolment at Mawson Lakes School from 2023 onwards are detailed in the Capacity Management Plan gazetted on 31 August 2023 (reviewed as required).

Living in Mawson Lakes does not guarantee enrolment at the school.  We do not register families outside of our school zone.

Starting Reception

Government primary schools have 2 major enrolment intakes from 2024, one for children at the beginning of the year (intake 1) and one for children to start school in term 3 (intake 2).

If your child turns 5 years old:

  • before 1 May they can start reception in term 1 of that year.
  • between 1 May and 31 October, they can start reception in term 3 (mid-year).
  • after 31 October they can start reception in the following year.

Children who start reception at the beginning of the year will generally complete 4 terms of reception, while children who start reception through the mid-year intake will complete 6 terms of reception.

Applying to enrol - all families

Step 1:
Reception starters – Submit an enrolment request form as soon as your child starts a Preschool/Kindergarten programme.

Y1 – 6 enrolments – If you are wishing to enrol your child/ren in Years 1 to 6, please contact the school on 8260 1681 or email.

Step 2:
Mandatory requirements
Submit your verification documents with the enrolment request. You will need to provide:
 

  • a copy of the child’s original birth certificate or passportresidency visa, if you’re a non-Australian resident
    NB: if you hold a 500, 482 or 487 visa, please contact the school to discuss visa requirements prior to submitting your enrolment request
  • your child’s immunization certificate 
  • proof of address including:
    – council rates OR a Rental contract which must extend 12 months beyond the date of your child commencing school and your initial 12 month bond receipt
    – driver’s licence showing your Mawson Lakes address
    – 2 utility accounts or sign-up welcome letters – e.g. gas, electricity, phone or internet
  • medical action plans (as required e.g. asthma, allergy etc.)
  • Y1-6 students – previous school report from current school
  • Reports

Offers of enrolment for Reception starters

Step 3:
You will receive an offer of enrolment for starting Reception in either: 

Term 1 (Week 3) for the Mid-year intake – July               or                  Term 2 (Week 2) for students starting in January of the following year.

This offer will include:

  • A formal enrolment form for Mawson Lakes School and
  • Department for Education and general school consent permissions

These forms will need to be returned to the school by date nominated in the email.
If you do not wish to accept the place held for your child, please advise the school as soon as possible.

Step 4:
Once forms have been returned, families will be advised of transition visit information for Reception students and our New Parent information sess

Transition visits for new Receptions are held in Term 2 (Mid-year starters) and Term 4 (January starters).

 

Y1 - 6 enrolment enquiries

Step 3a:
Year 1 – 6 student enrolment enquiries will be reviewed by our leadership team. If you are wishing to start during the school year, please provide a current school report for your child along with the mandated documentation listed under Step 2.
Our leadership team will consider contacting your child/ren’s previous/current school to obtain more information to assist placing your child/ren should the enrolment be accepted. Once this process is finalised, you will be contacted regarding acceptance of your enquiry – either by email or phone.

An acceptance offer will include:

  • A formal enrolment form for Mawson Lakes School and
  • Department for Education and general school consent permissions

These forms will need to be returned to the school by date nominated in the email.
If you do not wish to accept the place held for your child, please advise the school as soon as possible.

Step 4a:
Once forms have been returned, families will be advised of class information and visits – where applicable
